Jampa Wurst is founder and main organizer of the IQBC and their monthly Conscious Connections. They studied comparative religion at Freie Universität Berlin, where they earned their PhD in 1999. In their studies, they conducted field work among Tibetan Buddhist nunneries in exile India. They was ordained twice with white robes in Theravada Buddhism. Realizing the need for a safe space for queer Buddhists, having been bullied in their Buddhist communities, they founded the International Queer Buddhist Conferences shortly before the pandemic. Since 2021 the IQBCs have become an annual event.

18th Conscious Connection –September 27 – 7 pm CEST/1 pm EDT/10:30 pm India/10 am PST

Elias VanDette (they/he)

Topic: Art & Music

Guest facilitator: Juliane Leonie Amberger

The 18th Conscious Connection of the IQBC deals with the topic of art and music against the background of how we can mindfully connect our feelings with art or music. Participants are welcome to play an instrument in front of the camera or to bring a paper and pens. There will also be an opportunity for mindful sharing of thoughts, feelings and impressions that arise during the open conversation.

Juliane Leonie Amberger is originally from Bavaria, where they went to school and studied. Juliane studied Scandinavian, German, Literature and Religious Studies and is currently pursuing a PhD in Religious Studies. Their passion for teaching people has led Juliane to various institutions, including the Technical University in Nuremberg and the University of Ostrava, where Juliane worked as a lecturer in the Department of German and Cultural Studies, supported by a scholarship. The current Russian war of aggression has not left Juliane unscathed, as she has both Russian and Ukrainian friends. Since activism and “right action” is also an important topic for Juliane, they joined a human rights organization after their year in the Czech Republic, where they works with refugees from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia and helps them to build a base in Germany in the frame of German and integration courses. Thus, Juliane currently lives in Berlin. Since Juliane has been in Plum Village for a longer time and has also practiced there in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, Juliane continues the practice in Berlin and currently meets a Sangha there.

Topic: Drawings

Guest facilitator: Brandi Noire La Zard

Brandi “Noire” La Zard was raised in Houston, Texas. La Zard received her BFA (Individualized Film/Video/Performance and Drawing) from California College of the Arts in San Francisco/Oakland. Her work has been selected and featured in the Creative Quarterly, as one of the national finalists in the Fine Art Professional category for the No. 27 circulation. She’s also featured in WMN Zine publication dedicated to artists living with disabilities. Ms. La Zard exhibited work in the group exhibition Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series – Regional – Houston Museum of African American Culture, Houston, Texas. La Zard currently lives and works in Houston, Texas: „My work explores my life-long curiosity and fascination with form. Specifically, typography and architecture have directly influenced my artistic approach, aesthetic. The forms are created through free association; in addition, predetermined forms are used as the catalyst to develop the overall composition. My studies in graphic design, typography, architecture, abstract constructivism, and pop art have shaped my aesthetic, thus far, in the majority of works to date. Merging gestural mark-making with structured line-drawing dominates the overall composition. In this realm of competing styles of mark-making (gestural, precision mark-making), the works highlight the desire to create freedom, harmony, and balance between those worlds.“

Topic: Creativity and Compassion

Guest facilitator: Jemarc Axinto

Jemarc Axinto (They/She/He) is a Filipinx, Nonbinary Trauma Recovery, Creativity & Authenticity coach with a deep practice rooted in Vajryana (Tantric) Buddhism and a profoundly theosophic view of spirituality and wellness. They believe that the path to healing isn’t solely found in one space, but is about the deep integration of modern day science with ancient philosophy and wisdom. They have dedicated a decade of their life to the actualization of a mind, body, spirit balanced no longer withheld by trauma, labels, and roles. They’ve turned this deep study into an alchemical process to empower everyone they meet into actualizing their most authentic selves and radically rewiring their brains to heal trauma at its root in the nervous system.

Jemarc has had the honor of studying under and being mentored by some of the wisest and most profound spiritual teachers of our day like Sah D’Simone, Amanda Gilbert, and Deepak Chopra and the teaching staff at the Chopra Foundation. They’ve also studied under some of the most revered and respected Buddhist teachers of today including Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, and Lama Losang Samten

Jemarc’s unique approach to healing is one that does not reject anyone so long as they keep their hearts open to the Brahmaviharas. They believe that healing isn’t about restricting oneself to one path, but rather about finding your own path on the path.

“Jemarc’s wholehearted commitment to radical authenticity genuinely benefits others on their path to liberation” – Sah D’Simone

HELLO, my name is Marie Grace Brabandt.

I’m from Michigan and I’m 60 years of age.
I live with my 3 pets, 1 dog and 2 cats.
I love healthy food!
In 2018 as my health declined, I made a conscious choice after watching What the Health and Forks Over Knives that I needed to make a chance. I gave up the SAD diet, (standard American diet) I went to being a vegan right away.
I started for my health and stayed vegan for the animals and the plantet. Documentry: Earthlings!
I’m now a wholefood plantbased vegan, again for my body mind and spirit! No processed foods, sugars or caffeine. I turned into a tea drinker, which I love.
I’m healing my body with living food. “Food is medicine and medicine is food.” Hippocrates
I love sharing about my journey and how easy it is to eat vegan or whole food plantbased.
I love food, meditation, yoga and nature,  whether it’s the trails in the woods or kayaking or cycling on my ebike. I love my family and my chosen made family in the queer community.
Lovingly, Marie Grace

Topic: The Nine Phases of Qi Cultivation

Guest Facilitator: B. Leavitt

This practice is so profound, important, and interesting, that B invites us to an extra session over three weeks, once a week.

B. is a gender fluid bisexual who holds a 200-hour certification from the Institute of Integral Tai Chi and Qigong and has been leading various practice groups for about 10 years. B. is the father of 2, an attorney and, if you’re not looking, he may eat your ice cream.

The practice is called “The Nine Phases of Qi Cultivation” and is based on Roger Jahnke’s book The Healing Promise of Qi. Using 9 movements to gather, refine and transform qi within the body, the practice is a simple but profound engagement with our internal energetic system. The practice is grouped into 3 “sections” — the earth phase, the human phase and the heavenly phase. 3 is an important number in qigong as it reflects one description of the cosmos, placing the human person as the mediating points between the cosmic energies of earth and sky. The traditional Chinese medicine concepts of jing, qi and shen (bodily essence, energy and spirit) also filter into the 3 sections and support additional possibilities for visualization and focus during the practice. Our time together will (all too briefly) address some of these “theories” underpinning the practice and then introduce participants to the 9 movements, giving a solid basis for a continuing practice.

COME TO ONE, COME TO ALL!

For zoomlink send an email to info@iqbc.org.
The Conscious Connections will be a regular zoom event until the 2nd IQBC in Fall 2022. If you’re interested, send an email to info@iqbc.org.
